Yesterday was the first day of Meiryukan Noda`s "Early Summer taiken". We had 3 kindergarten kids try out the junior class of the Noda Shunpukan dojo. We went through the basics - aisatsu, kamae, ukemi, suriashi, and had some fun with ikkajo.
With almost 25 kids, and half of them being 3, 4 and 5 year olds, the
first class of every Wednesday drains me more than a full weekend of
adult classes. However, seeing their cute, smiling faces filled with energy and enthusiasm makes it all worth it.
Today the seniors stepped up and tried some shodan techniques. We did ryote mochi tenchinage ni, shomen uchi hijiate kokyunage, and finished off with about 20 minutes of jiyu-waza. Everyones ukemi has improved greatly in the last few months. Looking good for the summer tests!
