Past 5 days

This morning in Omiya we worked on behind the back techniques.

ushiro waza ryote mochi hijishime 1, 2

For a couple of the students it was their first time attempting these yudan techniques. However, they are just combinations of parts from previous techniques. If you understand the basics, it is easy to adapt.

Last night was our first day back at the Noda #1 junior high class (last week a Judo group held their winter training hence, our day off).

A good mix of junior and senior members, both young and old. We did mune mochi ikkajo osae ni, suwari waza katate michi nikajo osae ni, katate mochi ikkajonage, katate mochi kotegaeshi.

Straight back leg, big pivots, extended zanshin

On Sunday afternoon in Sakado, we practiced brown belt techniques.

shomen uchi nikajo osae ni (both standing and seated) aswell as a variation of shomen uchi ikkajonage.

It has been cold as of late, so nice to keep moving with throwing techniques.

Finished with strict shumatsu dosa

Saturday`s Nagareyama class was at the Hokubo dojo, quite far from the station, so unfortunately a small turn out. Regardless, we trained hard on ryote mochi waza.

ryote mochi tenchinage ichi, suwari waza ryote mochi tenchinage ni, ryote mochi kokyunage.

Point was balanced power through both hands

Saturday monring in Noda we were back to basics. The first class was all about diagonal movements from the front foot.

We ran through about 6 techniques that use this movement.

The 2nd class was chest grasp techniques.

mune mochi sankajo osae ichi, suwari waza mune mochi sankajo osae ni, mune mochi shomen iriminage.
